How can we improve Maya?

  1. Procedural selection tool

    A way of selecting polys or any other object or particle procedurally. for example like Max volume select or houdinis select by expression or by volume or like MASH falloff but for polys and particles

  2. feature request: add Input Min and Max to polyColorMod node

    Hi,

    Mesh vertex colors sometimes exceed the range of zero to one per channel. E.g. Bifrost velocity channel stored in BIF or Alembic.

    As far as I know, is currently not possible to scale the display of the vertex colors so that all channel values are shown on the viewport, with no clipping. Currently, almost all of the Bifrost velocity data is clipped from the vertex color display because velocity almost always exceeds a value of one.

    The Color Set Editor offers a "Modify" button that adds a polyColorMod node. This node allows manipulation of the color set data... but…

  3. vertex/texture map for nhair surface constraints

    Possibility to paint constraint weights for component to surface constraints when it comes to nhair.

  4. per follicle collision width override

    Instead of only having a global width value for hair collisions it would be useful to have it on a override base per follicle.

  7. Get Rid of Paint Effects

    Paint Effects is a useless tool, great for wowing people in demos but essentially useless for any sort of real production. Just take it back behind the barn and shoot it!

    Replace it with an L-System generator with a bunch of presets.

  8. Ncloth using patterns

    I like ncloth and the only problems i have with it is that it's slow, it isn't as interactive as Marvelous Designer and doesn't have tools for creating patterns like MD, i know it's easier to model clothes directly but by creating patterns and sewing them ( like how the old cloth system worked in Maya in the old days) will give you nice wrinkles in default bind poses. Can you guys bring back the option of creating patterns ( other example are Qualoth and jc.clothes 2), MD is great but it's lacking features that Nucleus has and vice versa…

  9. Rigid body emitter

    Maya would have a rigid body emitter. Maybe instance should work like cloner tool in Cinema 4D.

  10. Maya Fluids FX Improvement

    Maya Fluids FX have not been updated since Maya 2011/2012.
    It's time to update this set of fluid simulation tools with improved performance and stability, new fields (maybe customizable), and another great feature wuold be a Multiscatter self illumination like Fumefx or Houdini. Please dont't look at bifrost new gas solver beacouse it's a very poor quality solver.

  12. Native support to OpenVDB

    Add OpenVDB tools (volumeToMesh, fracture) as nodes to Maya. Nodes interact with the viewport like any other node in Maya.

  13. Add the ability to animate a Bullet Rigid Body from Passive to Active

    Coming from Softimage to Maya, in Soft we had the ability to animate a passive body and change it to active at any time in the simulation. In Maya there is only an option in Bullet to have an object initially sleep. Problem is this, what if nothing is going to collide with your object. You want a building to collapse at different times due to a plane crashing, an eathquakes shockwaves, and resulting tremors, bombs going off in the distance. etc. under the fields and solvers you can set passive/active keys but not under bullet, this is very useful…

  14. maya dynamics/fluid container

    i think it would be awesome if we would be able to input texture in incandescence ramp. if we are making fire for example, we would insert real life fire texture and filter and arrange colors in the picture. that way it would give us more realistic shading

  15. Maya Shatter has never worked... never been revisted.. Please recode this.

    The current algorithm for Maya's shatter function is completely inoperable and has been for years. I'm sick of constantly having 3rd party solutions that work 10x better dangle in front of my face for more money when I paid for a product that is supposed to work out of the box.

    I've tried on probably 4 totally simple geometry types for solid shatter and I just contantly get errors..

    " An error occurred while running the Solid Shatter script."

    Vague much guys? sighs.. Frustrations.

    This example was done with solid shatter defaults, 5 shards...

    Heaven forbid I actually have to…

  16. Maya Muscle should be easier to setup than now.

    I hope Maya 17 will have cool One-Click button Muscle Setup. I mean a robust one. Imagine if we just select Faces corresponding to each muscle, and then Click a button, and the corresponding muscle will be created and locators are automatically parents to each joint. Muscle itself can be tweaked later with tabs.

  19. We need a smart crowed system as a default plug-in in maya !

    We need a crowed system we can work on that easily as in 3d Max it would solve many problems and would improve the artists workflow much better...

  20. Nvidia Flex

    FleX is a particle based simulation technique for real-time visual effects based on GPU.
    Excellent for cloth, water, softbody and others plug already add on 3DSmax via plug but would be good have in Maya.
