How can we improve Maya?

  2. Please add Modo's Rounded Edge Shader in Maya

    For video games production we need in Maya, something similar to Modo's Rounded Edge Shader . This can make the hard surface modeling and baking so easy for us if implemented. Please check this video to understand what i mean:

  4. Isolate Selected while keeping Image Plane Reference Visible

    Maya should allow Isolate Selected while keeping Image Plane Reference Visible. Sometimes You need to isolate part of an intricate model but you still need your background reference visible, without having to select it every time or removing it from your "reference" display layer.

    Maya needs this UX improvement.

  5. Maya for many

    Maya needs to have a non student free version for Indie start-ups, otherwise a huge pool of talent will be unharnessed, not everyone world wide has education access but would love to create, Maya seriously start thinking outside the box on this one, long term it's an investment in future creative minds.

    Make duplicate with transform work with clone instance / smart duplicate move feature in Maya 2018 (BUGFIX)

    The Smart duplicate option is great, especially if I want to quickly instance something while modeling, it would be nice if I could then quickly create a linear array of say 5 objects by having duplicate with transform context sensitive to either copy or instance state of the initial.

    This is a small user experience fix that would more cohesively integrate Maya 2018's modeling improvements.

  7. Turn Edge Like Max

    Max has an edge turn for the invisible edge in a poly. Maya would benefit from this for low poly modeling. Instead of having to break my edge flow by adding a triangle.

  8. Xgen Interactive Grooming Splines Features

    Hello there!

    I'd like to chime in about some IGS features that I think are badly missing but exist in core Xgen, especially when it comes to guides:

    -Ability to create IGS descriptions based on guides, not the other way around, where you create a bunch of hair first and then have to create guides. I find that 100% of the time I delete most of the guides IGS gives me (since it's way too many) and make my own anyway. It would improve efficiency and save hours.

    -Make IGS guides individually selectable in viewport and individually rebuild-able (like core…

  9. Expand on the available snaps

    As a bare minimum I would love to see a on key-press "snap to face" added.

    It's extremely handy when you are designing something around multiple meshes with create polygon (like in hardsurface cases with robots with multiple parts) --- and is a big time saver even when you're only working with a single mesh too. It speeds up your workflow by not having to check and uncheck make live on that object every single time you're fixing a mesh topology, designing a new mesh over top, or simply helping yourself to quickly plop a new object in place all…

  10. Constant Crease Edge Tool Option & Smart Subdivision

    It would be cool if it was possible to Crease Edges so that the round corner would be constant all the way instead of relative to the distance to the neighbouring edge. Please also invent an algorithm to turn Crease polygons into smart subdivided Polygons that only have as much subdivisions as necessary for full quality display. And allow for higher values than 4. The current crease system is ok but it feels old and needs some touching up.

  11. add "select hard edges" command so we can bind it to a shortcut or marking menu

    That Use Constraints window in the Select menu sucks. It takes forever to dig trough it to do what you need. We need a command called simply" select hard edges" . With one shortcut we select hard edges and then we bevel them. That easy! All of us have to use all kind of obscure plugins to do such simple things.Look in ZhCG_PolyTools! There are some neat things you need to add in native Maya. Look at how NDM Phoenix plugin does it when it come to hard edges>>bevel. Thanks.

  12. Drag line selection tool like in XSI

    Current Maya selection tools are ok for vertices (marquee or lasso tools, which is much slower in precise mode btw - compared to XSI!) or polygons (drag selection tool), but edges selection is strongly missing the tools from XSI - line selection tool. It's idea is to draw a gesture based line. Every component line crosses gets selected. It's ultimately fast and robust select tool, unlike drag tool. And it is very useful to work with edges. Please implement this tool an option for drag tool.

  13. AutoModeller imitator for Maya

    There should be a tool for Maya similar to the AutoModeller Pro plugin for 3ds Max but with some differences. http://www.automodeller.com/
    1. Use of 2d patterns like a voronoi pattern
    2. Use of maps like density maps
    3. Use of boundary regions
    4. Use of flows.
    5. Parameters for generated meshes.

    How about a tool where you can create geometric volumes to procedurally groom hairstyles like Disney Animation's Tonic?

  17. Enhance Live Surface with adding Normal Constraint option

    We need Live Surface to have a built in Normal Constraint option. When i snap an object to a live surface, i should be able to enable normal constraint so if i move that object along the surface , the object will preserve its orientation. The same if i duplicate that object and i place it somewhere else on the live surface. It can be acting like a duplicate on surface tool, but very accurate. Right now, in order to get the same effect i should activate Live surface, duplicate an object, place it on the surface, Constrain the object…

  18. Update Symmetry Button (for when symmetry breaks slightly)

    The new symmetry is great, but it's not quite perfect. If we could select generally one side of verts (majority should do) and hit update sym, the side we select would update and mirror the placement of the other side. The doesn't really matter but you could need a way to indicate which side to keep so it's either select the side you want to keep, or select the problem area. ZBrush does mask select and update unmasked. I like the idea of selecting the problem verts and effecting them like you would with relax or something of that sort.
