Small Annoying Things to fix in Maya forum

Welcome all Maya users! We have merged the Maya and Maya LT forums to make it easier to track and vote on items that apply to both packages. Please help us identify things that bother you when you’re working in Maya that we can easily fix.

Suggest and vote for annoying little quirks or problems in Maya you want us to fix, and get others to vote for your ideas.

Describe both the steps to show the issue, and how you would prefer it. Enter each idea separately (we’ll remove items with multiple ideas) and assign a specific category. What is a little tweak or change we can make to Maya?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. secondary diffuse bounces for final gather shouldn't be just in the legacy options.

    The secondary diffuse bounces option is currently (2016) hidden away in the legacy options wheras it is an important and relevent option for any GI rendering.

    A simple way (a simple node?) to deal with external mi files with the possibility to assign shaders using slots (you assign shaders to the "includeMI" nodes connecting it to some slots).   4. Map in area light

    Map in area light. For now, area map can't light using a map. You need to add a plane in front of them with a transparent map to make them "look" physical.

  5. Half window missing

    when launching a bake, minimizing the MR batch bake window and then remaximising the window, half the window is missing, you will have to close the tool window and reopen it. Doing this each time is very annoying. Yes, we really need the other half.

  6. Naming absurdity for baking lightmap

    If you bake a lightmap and name it "A", then do another bake and name it "B", there is no garantee Maya will name it "B", instead it can choose to name it "A" and overwrite your previous baked lightmap that took a day to render.

  7. MR batch bake multithreading issue

    We have been told that MR batch bake supports multithreading in 'Multiple objects" mode, but that's not true, when baking 100 objects at the same time, the cpu usage never reaches 99% it reaches 40/50 usage at the max.

  8. curve warp option to occur after tranform

    The new curve warp tool seems cool, but it would be nice if it behaved like other deformers and kept the transform of the object before the deformer. Maybe it is working in a very different way to other deformers and this isn't possible though?

  9. No STL Export Option Maya 2017

    Seriously, as far as I can tell they 100% got rid of Direct Connect for their new ATF system in Maya 2017, but right now only import is possible... Seriously.... There is absolutely no way inside of MAYA to export one of the most common file formats available?

  10. File texture. Compose image using its alpha over Default Color.

    When trying to put a decal on a surface, it should be far easier that the File texture would compose the loaded image using its own alpha channel over the Default Color and pass that to the mapped material attribute.
