Welcome all Maya users! We have merged the Maya and Maya LT forums to make it easier to track and vote on items that apply to both packages. Please help us identify things that bother you when you’re working in Maya that we can easily fix.

Suggest and vote for annoying little quirks or problems in Maya you want us to fix, and get others to vote for your ideas.

What is a little tweak or change we can make to Maya?

    Playblast tools should pick up all loaded codec for playblast.

  3. Add "Xray Curves" to ModelPanel.

    Add "Xray Curves" to ModelPanel, just like "Xray Joints".

    Most rigs are done with NURBS curves, so with this option, animators can easily toggle between Show Curves, X-Ray Curves, and Hide Curves. Just like Ctrl+a in MotionBuiler.

  4. Vertex Constraint

    The ability to constrain an object to vertex and vertex to objects. The absence of this is ridiculous.

    How about Constrain/Point On Poly ?
    It can constrain object to vertex.

    If you want to do opposit. How about cluster vertex and constrain to objects.

  5. Make the Euler filter accessable from the timeline.

    Getting to the Euler filter is kind of a pain in the butt the way that it is now.

    Using the Euler filter now means that you have to open your graph editor, select the keys you need to fix so that they show up in the graph editor, select the keys in the graph editor, go to the curves drop down menu and click Euler Filter.

    Wouldn't it be great if we could just select the curves on our rig that we have keys on, highlight the keys in the timeline and then right click on the timeline to…

  6. Choice of colours for keyframes on the timeline

    Allowing the selection of different colours for keyframes would make it much easier for animators to identify keyframes/breakdowns/Inbetweens

  7. Euler filter should work with multiple layers

    The Euler filter does not work with multiple layers. This should be fixed so curves on any layer can also be fixed.

  8. thumbnails in the timeline, trax and sequencer

    I want more visual representation of what's going on - you should do a screen grab and display it as a thumbnail in these editors to help me adjust timing

  9. Make 'removal of timeline changes from undo' in 2016 an option instead of mandatory for all.

    For those who have been animating for many years in maya, this new change seems incredibly prohibitive and confusing. Fundamentally - any pose changes are undone out of context of the frame in which they were created. Its a very annoying extra step to have to manually navigate to a certain frame to see what your undo is operating on.

    There are always two sides to both camps, some who will prefer this feature and some who will not - which is why it makes sense for this to be exposed as a preferences option.

  10. Some Updates/Fixes to the Grease Pencil Tool

    The new Grease Pencil Tool looks like it could be a great addition for planning animation. But a couple of improvements could be handy, ...

    - A Duplicate button, to quickly add another copy of the current key drawing, would speed things up (rather than copy & pasting)
    - A Move tool. To be able to grab whole drawings (or select parts) and move/scale them around.
    - And a bug fix. Sometimes when sliding/copying keys ... certain keys will be replaced by another random drawing from another keyframe. (clicking twice in the viewport with the eraser seems to fix the…

  11. Animation Time Range Adjustment.

    On changing the frame rate (for example from the default 24 fps to 25fps) why does it decide to set the first frame as 1.04 rather than 1. its really annoying to have to adjust this all the time when changing the frame rate. i dont know of any reason why anyone would want to start at frame 1.04.

  12. HIK needs more documentation. Also needs to lose some problems/bugs.

    There is a wackload of attributes and what they do is not always immediately apparent. Searching for information usually means a lot of videos of someone 'defining', or older version 'look what it can do' videos.
    It's better then 2012 to set up, but...
    keyframing the rig is often a nightmare due to unexpected behaviour.
    auto characterization of mocap examples is not working for me.
    Currently it really is not a SAT but a roadblock, to be honest.

  13. Swap to buffer curve and snapshot only tagged keys

    When swapping to buffer curve only selected keys would swap.

    Same with buffer cure snapshot. Assuming the actual animation curve is different than the buffer curve, only selected keys would reflect in the new snapshot.

  14. Allow objects to fade visibility on and off

    I know that you’re currently able to toggle and animate an objects visibility on or off however it would be nice if you could fade an object's visibility on and off. Maybe through the graph editor like 3DS Max does with it’s visibility track. I understand that you can animate a materials visibility but if I have a number of objects with the same material and need to fade the objects on or off at different times I would need multiple materials with different transparency settings which is frustrating.

  15. Playblast with multiple sound nodes

    I would like to be able to import several sound nodes, offset them in maya and when I playblast have them all in the resulting video file. Maya has always only allowed a single audio node into a playblast.

    The reason I've wanted this is because dialog is so closely tied to animation that tweaks to dialog timing are often necessary during the animation process, and it's a pain to jump back and forth between an external editor, offset the dialog, and replace it back into maya.

    "Why not use the trax editor" you say? Well it doesn't do scrub…

  16. Fix the IK Spring Solver and include it in the deafult list

    The IK Spring solver has a known bug since year 2009 !!!
    It doesn't work correctly when the chain is parented to an object/group.
    Basically rotating the parent node it twists the whole chain, "thinking" it's rotating in the world rather than inheriting the parent transformations.

    Plus, please include the IK Spring and IK McSolver in the list of available solvers. It's about time, don't you think !?

    You want the IK chain to follow the movement, but rotate in world space?
    How about use Parent constrain? Make sure, check off Rotate in the option.

  17. Want to run geometry cache on multiple cores

    Currently, the geometry caching process has to go through the frame range once for each character – why can’t this happen in parallel on multiple cores?

  18. make character sets work with values over 360 in maya 2016

    create a cube- create a character set containing the cube.
    set a key on frame 0 with roty value 0, go to frame 10 and set another keyframe with value 500- step forward and back a frame and notice that maya has changed 500 to a random value between 0 and 360.

  19. Timeline scrub with k+wheel

    Holding down k+middlemouse and dragging in the viewport to scrub is really nice, but can be taxing on the arm.

    How about k+scroll-wheel?

    There is a similar thing here, where they can define the steps of frames to scroll through.

  20. Enable soft selection for Editable Motion Trails

    I really like the new editable motion path feature, but at first it is not intuitive to use.

    Softselection not enabled (so that you can select one key, and then use soft-select to modify a large number of keys).

    @arminmueller: Your original suggestion had more than one idea in it. To make it more clear what people are voting for, we don’t allow multiple ideas.

    I’ve randomly picked one idea within your original suggestion instead of just declining the whole thing. If this is not the most important idea to you re: editable Motion Trails, remove your vote from this (see FAQ) and then suggest another smaller idea.
