What is a little tweak or change we can make to Maya?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. Improve the new modeling toolset ( NEX)

    Theese are the problems i found with the new modeling toolset:
    1.When holding any sort of snapping it switches to the normal maya icons and automatically turns off the toolkit also since snapping doesn't work with the toolkit symmetry also won't work.
    2.When the toolkit sometimes is doing an undo to an operation u need to undo twice because sometimes it needs to do that to switch from a face mode for example to a different mode.

  2. Make a preset the default setting for any given node type

    How many times have you typed '.454' three times in a row? Or clicked the preset dropdown and selected the desired preset, even though you wish to use the same exact preset every time you create a new node? What if you want your default ramp node to be "Black to White" instead of "Blue Green Red"? Or assign the same initial preset to every material or ncloth node you create?

    Presets are great, but setting a default preset for each node would give the user more control and save several precious clicks for every node created. Naturally there should…

  3. make default ramp black to white rather than the rgb thing

    I *always* have to change it- and I use black > white ramps constantly

  4. Make construction history more robust with things like poly unite

    I often find that construction history breaks in ways that seem un-reasonable meaning that I can't rely on it too much. 'Poly Unite' is a common example of this. For example:

    >make two poly spheres

    >use PolyUnite on both spheres

    >Click on the resulting mesh and look its inputs

    >Increase the number of subdivisions

    When I do this, the newly created polygons don't have a material so I have to assign one. Worse still, when doing this kind of thing, the mesh will often break so that faces dissapear etc.

    Also, Maya often blocks the ability to change defomation order…

  5. Don't prompt to save an empty scene

    If I open Maya and then go to file:open, Maya prompts me to save the empty scene it created when it opened.
    It also autosaves blank scenes if I leave it open for a while.

  6. Backburner Options

    It would be great if the Backburner for Maya window gets a checkbox or a default setting for using all CPU's/Cores - it's annoying to type in -mr:rt 0 as Additional Options everytime you start maya/backburner

  7. Bevel should not split uv mapping.

    When using the bevel tool on an object that already has uv mapping it cuts the edges and you must redo you uv's after beveling. Please make the bevel tool non destructive to uv's.

  9. Fix the crashing from switching viewports 1vp to 4vp

    Maya 2014 crashes without warning or attempt to save when I switch from one viewport to quadview. Id like this fixed! Its making 2014 unusable!

  10. Bevel tool should be able to create a perfectly flat 2 segment bevel like 3ds max.

    For creating smooth mesh preview models it would be extremely helpful if the Maya default bevel tool could create a perfectly flat 2 segment bevel like 3ds max. I have tried all the settings in Maya and turning off autofit almost works, but it is not perfectly flat and the degree of flatness varies based on the shape of the geometry. Please see attached screenshot, at one point there was an after market tool which provided this functionality in Maya, but the tool was buggy and crashed Maya a lot and is no longer supported.   11. Option to pause the script editor's history refresh, (or decouple scrolling from following).

    It's difficult to interrogate your script editor when a batch is running because the window refreshes rapidly, forcing the scroll to the bottom...This makes it a pain to see which render layers are rendered from within Maya.

    If scrolling were de-coupled or the refresh could be easily paused this would help.

  13. Please bring back the Search box under the Help menu

    Maya 2013 had a search box at the very top of its Help menu. This is removed in Maya 2014. Please bring it back. It's incredibly useful for finding and selecting commands from the menus quickly.

    The Help-menu search box is a system-provided feature that is available in all applications on Mac OS X. Like I said, Maya 2013 also supported it just fine, but for reasons I don't understand, you've removed it in Maya 2014. The Maya-provided alternative to it, "Help->Find Menu", has also been removed in the 2014 version.

  14. Don't show cameras in viewport when Display > Show All Geometry is selected.

    When you click "Display > Show All Geometry," All of the default cameras are also shown in the viewport. This is a very annoying bug that has been around for a LONG time.

  15. interactive light creation (don't always put lights at the origin)

    Other software like 3ds Max can create lights at where users click a thousand years ago!!!

  16. Instanced lights

    Currently lights, while they appear to be able to be instanceable, they don't actually render in any engine.

    Make lights instanceable - VRay manages to do it perfectly!

  17. Stop Maya from obscuring the status bar

    Mayas embedded progress bars gets obscured by minimized windows and floating windows. Could we get a progress bar that doesn't get obscured by the rest of the interface when for instance importing heavy geometry and rendering? :)

  18. time slider does not show correct frame when opening file

    When you open a Maya scene, the Time Slider always shows frame 0, regardless of what frame the scene was saved at. The current time field shows the correct time. The Time Slider should always indicate the current time.

    Steps to Reproduce:

    Create a sphere.
    Go to frame 10.
    Save the scene.
    Re-open the file you just saved.
    The time slider indicator is at frame 0, but the current time field shows 10.

  19. remove the '8' shortcut for making a new paint effects scene

    i often slip whilst pressing 7 for lit view and create a painteffects scene that i am promptes to save when closing maya

  20. SSAO in viewport 2.0 does not respect alpha channel transparency.

    Please don't render ssao on top of the areas of a model that has an alpha channel transparency applied to it. This technique is the default setting in all game rendering engines, otherwise you will see an outline of the geometry even though the alpha channel is trying to make it transparent.
