How can we improve Maya?

  1. SOuP in Maya

    Integrate and improve the SOuP toolset into Maya. There is so much in there for all categories, I didn't even know which one to put it in. Include all these workflows at soup-dev.com, consult and compensate the included parties, to learn from their r&d, and further improve upon the the goal of a procedural modeling/dynamics and opendata conversion of paintfx/fluids/nparticles/nCloth/nHair/meshes and all other data within Maya.

  2. Create a node based Particle Editor like in 3ds Max's "View Particle" ability.

    Having a more improved particle editing system like in 3ds Max. The ability to add events and such in a node based editor such as the "View Particle" menu set in 3ds Max.

  3. Nucleus Performance

    Nucleus systems need to better take advantage of multicore processors for massive simulations. Threading collissions a few versions ago was a start, but this work should continue.

  6. particle/nparticle use geometry instance should be used as the collision shape.

    when using instanced geometry with particles, the shape of the geometry should be used for collisions like in thinking particles for max.

  7. One Unified Physics System

    Right now rigids have to be stiff cloth objects to work with nCloth? Please just make one physics system that works with everything and not multiple different physics solvers and systems that are mutually exclusive.

  10. Naiad in Maya: Now that I know autodesk owns Naiad . . .

    Naiad is great . . . maya's liquid simulations are aging.

    I would love to have those 2 together, as long as it's stable.

  11. Maya Shatter has never worked... never been revisted.. Please recode this.

    The current algorithm for Maya's shatter function is completely inoperable and has been for years. I'm sick of constantly having 3rd party solutions that work 10x better dangle in front of my face for more money when I paid for a product that is supposed to work out of the box.

    I've tried on probably 4 totally simple geometry types for solid shatter and I just contantly get errors..

    " An error occurred while running the Solid Shatter script."

    Vague much guys? sighs.. Frustrations.

    This example was done with solid shatter defaults, 5 shards...

    Heaven forbid I actually have to…

  12. Let Maya catch up with Houdini, Stop improving modeling tools, and start working on FX tools

    since Maya 2008 Autodesk worked very hardly on improving modeling which easily can be replaced by a tens of other applications, but not working seriously on developing Dynamics... since Alias Maya 7 Autodesk added only few improvement tools like xGen which also can be replaced in my opinion and Bifrost which still needs alot of adjustments.. till now almost 90% of movies VFX are working on Houdini because Maya isn't sufficient enough.. At least include ICE in it.....

    add wavelet turbulence to maya fluids to bring it more in line with fluid engines like fume fx, phoenix, turbulenceFD.

  14. OpenVDB / Sparse Voxels (for efficient fluid caches and more)

    Maya Fluids can look really great at high resolutios. However caching this takes up a ton of disk space and I/O bandwidth. Why not use that nice efficient sparse voxels open-source OpenVDB format from DreamWorks to store them instead? You know that your competitor Houdini has already announced support for this, BTW?

    Of course, bonus points for integration with SOuP / wavelet upres functions / general voxel interoperability awesomeness!

    I need better particle render result, have some volume, something like Krakatoa. (I think this is a huge annoying thing)

  16. Particle Instancer : per particle offset animation, if the instanced meshes are animated

    So each instanced objects would be at different times of there animations.
    The use of cycling, with one object for each position is NOT a solution.

  17. Per-vertex particle-like expressions for nCloth

    Having the ability to tweak a sim in this manner would allow you to have a much greater custom contol to how your object interacts with other objects. For instance, you may want characteristics to change after a vertex collision. This is currently not possible.

  18. Native support to OpenVDB

    Add OpenVDB tools (volumeToMesh, fracture) as nodes to Maya. Nodes interact with the viewport like any other node in Maya.

    It will be cool to add a fluid preview window just like Fumefx in 3ds Max.
