How can we improve Maya?

  3. GeoPoly Tool like in 3dsMax

    Please make the GeoPoly tool for Maya. Exactly like the one currently in 3dsMax.

  5. Please Add Oculus Rift Support

    I have been using the Oculus Rift together with UDK. It is quite an awesome experience to see your 3D work in in true 3D with depth. It would be great if Maya had support for the Rift to view assets during the creation process before it get's pushed to your target app.

    I'm thinking that a separate window in Maya for the rift would be enough to get things rolling. While in rift mode a fly cam would be nice, it is basically a FPS camera with the added ability to press buttons to make the camera go up…

  6. Camera matching tool for Maya like C4D

    3ds max in it's v2014 got something similar - Perspective Match.
    Why C4D example? Because it's much better and more robust then 3ds max.
    C4D tool has that nice magnifying windows for more accurate positioning of vanishing points, it has other tools beside vanishing points, and has checking if perspective is set and correct.

    Since Maya is basically dominating movie industry and also a lot used for matte painting projections and similar stuff where it's required correct camera projections, modeling and blocking from plate and integrating 3D objects in the shoot it's always down to…

  8. Maya Sculpting

    Maya 2017 should have a robust Sculpting Tool built in, no need Mudbox. I mean Mudbox is terminated. I know this will affect 3DSMAX. But currently, Zbrush is very strong and the standard production for Sculpting. I hope Maya 2017 will allow artist to build thing from scratch, and with their imagination through the flow of their hands. Retopology and The Rebuid Mesh must be improved to make Maya a One Tool for the Whole Pipeline. I bet if this feature can be achieved, Zbrush will have a hard times.   9. Interactive Bevels in Maya

    Having interactive bevels on selection like this video shows it's possible with the addition of some Soup nodes, would be a major improvement to Maya modeling workflow. Being able to add and subtract bevels on selected edges on the fly , would make for a 10 stars addition to Maya's modeling toolset. Please consider this!

  10. Expand the modelling tools

    Now that I'm really happy with modelling toolkit,
    we need the extra power that's under 3dsmax graphite modelling tools.
    All those good things need to be in maya also!

  11. Bezier curves for soft select.

    Not being able to draw bezier curves for soft selections really limits it's usefulness. Bezier curves would enable us to make so many more shapes. You should really switch all curves in the maya user interface to bezier curves. The old ones are actually quite useless in most cases.

  12. Regular tube extrusion along a path with sharp angles.

    If you want to make a tube extrusion along a deformed rectangular for instance the result is wired and irregular. Evolve, Solid thinking does it very well (pipe extrusion). It would be great to improve all related to nurbs and surfaces including a cap surface, 3d rotation with references would be amazing using directly the rotation pivots.

  13. Blobby metaballs

    Metaballs (blobby objects) would be very useful.
    I'm talking about a new modeling/animating tool.
    This is NOT about the "Blobby surface" setting that is already used as a particle render type.

  14. Incorporate NURBS tools from Alias automotive / design products

    Incorporate the amazing NURBS tools in the other Alias products.

    Just look at the videos on Autodesk's own site:

    They seem to share the same codebase as Maya's... just the Maya ones got stuck in a time warp and never got updated.

    Please bring those tools into Maya to compensate for Maya's sluggish NURBS improvements over the years.

    In terms of interface and flexibility they seem to be light-years ahead of what is currently there.

  15. Texture based creation of geometry.

    This is a universal concept that would solve many, many problems at once. By procedurally generating geometry using textures, we would save days of work and put maya on par with houdini but for a fraction of its complexity.

    The idea is to have a geometry generation node that would analyze thresholds in order to create geometric representation of volumes, this would in turn be used to either generate new geometry or to alter existing shapes.

    For example, if one were to plug a procedural brick texture into this node, it would spit out an actual brick wall. However, by…

  16. Better fillet on curves

    Basically just the same feature as in MAX where you can select all the vertices on a curve and fillet them in one step. In Maya you now have to select all the vertices, separate them into several curves, then fillet two curves at the time, then the next two, then the next etc, then attach the curves back together.

  17. Add polygon modelling tools similar to polyboost tools

    Tools that allow you too modify edge flow like the flow connect tool, build end tool, ended loops tool,flow adjust, paint connect, space loop, relax loop. and selection tools like outline selection, fill too dot loop, pattern.
    I am specifically selecting these particular tools because most of the other tools have a sister version in Maya but maya does lack sufficient or extra tools. Another idea would be to have a push modifier similar to XSI. I also feel that when you set the axis to Local maya tends to either twist the orientation when modelling or maintain the axis…

  18. An Array tool that is interactive, fast and animatable

    An array tool with preview options, that works interactively with a large number of objects or instances, has the ability to randomize all transforms and possible links to dynamics.
    Every parameter should be animatable.
    It should support the user_data_shaders
    to randomize the shading.
    This could be integrated into a MoGraph like tool.

  19. Combine name

    Now that you have options for combine, could you add an option to keep the name of the last selected object as well? We have this made inhouse since a few years but it's always fun to get it out of box

  20. Please have a proper way to create pipe or tube that don't flip!

    With all the method available in maya, extrude a nurbs curve, paint effect convert to poly or whatever, none will be able to give a pipe or tube that won't flip once the direction of the curve break and the normal of the curve must change..this is annoying this problem doesn't exist in max, XSI, modo or any other apps I know! it should be adress! thanks
